CEDO515 Week 5

This week we created technology learning plans and looked at software evaluation rubrics. I enjoyed the tlp profile tool as it confirmed a lot of my beliefs in both things that I did well as well as things that I don't do so well. I would have liked the profile tool to be a little bit more precise with its choices and selections, however, for the most part it seemed to be fairly accurate in identifying positives and negatives. In addition to the tlp profile tool, I also enjoyed looking at the software evaluation tools. I have always been someone who likes using technology to evaluate technology so this is right up my alley. I looked through several different evaluation tools and found several that I liked and will actually recommend one evaluation tool to our IT as a plausible tool for him to implement in his own future workings. All in all I enjoyed the reflection and the opportunity to grow as a teacher and hope look forward to the day when I will actually have some time to sit down and begin implementing my findings.

  1. I would agree with you that the TLP tool confirmed both strengths and weaknesses in my use of technology. I would be curious to know how your district rated concerning technology. My district does a great job providing technology for students and teachers, while I do a lousy job using the tools that are provided. Do you work in a school district that is committed to providing top quality technology for teachers and students, while offering professional development opportunities for teachers to learn new ways to incorporate technology into their lessons? With your experiences with technology, I think you would be a great resource for the school to contact concerning technological needs in the classroom.

  2. Using technology to evaluate technology huh? The concept seems a little odd however productive. The software evaluation was a very useful tool that gives us the ability to tackle a large concept quite easily. I was wondering which tool that you thought was the best so much that you are recommending it.

  3. Catherine, I was googling evaluation tools and I stumbled on this Celeste Craig's evaluation tool. Celeste Craig appears to be a 5th grade teacher who's taken parts of other evaluations and grouped them together to make her own evaluation tool and I really liked what she did with it. The website for the evaluation tool is http://www.celestecraig.us/teacher%20evaluation.htm. Check it out I think it does a good job of blending the teacher concerns with the administration concerns.
